Sports Premium

Background

The Government provides grant funding to finance additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and Sport for the benefit of primary-aged pupils, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. This funding is allocated directly to first school head teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. Every state-maintained school, academy, middle school, special school and pupil referral unit with primary aged pupils will receive £16,000 plus a ‘top up’ of £10 per pupil (previously £8,000 plus £5 per pupil). The sports premium is calculated on the January census and arrives in the school budget via Additional Schools Grant (ASG) in October.

Purpose of Funding

The sport premium funding has been ring-fenced and can only be spent on sport, PE and Healthy Lifestyle provision in schools, although schools have the freedom to choose how best to do this. Schools are held accountable for how they spend their funding and are required to publish on-line information about how they have used the additional funding. OFSTED will play a significant role in ensuring that schools target this funding in areas which will lead to clear outcomes in raising standards and opportunities in PE and school sport for all children throughout the Primary Phase.

Our school aims to create a PE curriculum that inspires, enthuses and develops every child’s appetite to become a lifelong learner and participator in sport. Knowing how to keep fit and healthy both physically and emotionally. We aim to give opportunities for all pupils to develop their physical, leadership and coaching skills. Ultimately we want to create a thrill around physical activities where every child feels confident and ready to participate.
