Reading

Reading continues to be one of the most important skills for children to continually practise. Children are encouraged to read at least 3 times a week and to record their reading in their reading records..

At home please try to explore books by different authors and remember to read a range of styles of text eg fiction, non-fiction, poetry. Below is a link to some websites with recommended reading books for year 5 and year 6.

Our class book this term is Holes by Louis Sachar, which is about a boy (Stanley Yelnats) who gets sent to Camp Green Lake Detention Facility. He has to dig a hole every day as a way of 'building character', but is the facility what it seems? Slowly, the mystery unfolds as the links to an old curse and an outlaw named 'Kissing Kate Barlow' are all revealed.
