Reading
Reading in Sprout Class is the most important aspect to home learning. Reading is not just about recognising and ‘reading’ words, it is about understanding what is being read. Reading everyday with your child will help them to develop in all aspects of their learning. When you are sharing a book with your child it is important to ask them questions about the story. For example, can they predict what the story is about from looking at the front cover? Can they say what will happen next or at the end of the story? Can they describe the characters or the story setting? Can they explain why they like/dislike the story? Who is their favourite character and why?
We ask that children reread their phonics books that they get from school to help develop their reading skills and sight word fluency. The books that children are using to practise their reading at home should be matched to their reading abilities. If your child is finding them too easy or too hard please speak to Mr Batchelor.

Year 2 spellings
Year 2 children will take home a spelling worksheet weekly to support the spellings that they are doing in class. We would also encourage children to be accesing spelling shed games to help them learn their weekly spellings.
